Full-Service Auto Repair in Waldorf & Charles County, MD

Service and Repair of Tesla Vehicles

An electric car still has tires, brakes, suspension, steering, air conditioning and a 12-volt battery, and those are the parts that actually wear out. J.J.'s Auto Service Center services Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X for exactly that work — the routine mechanical maintenance that does not require a service appointment weeks out and a drive up the parkway.

What we do on a Tesla, and what we do not

We do: tires and rotation, wheel alignment, brake service, suspension and steering, cabin air filters, air conditioning and heating, 12-volt battery testing and replacement, wiper and washer systems, and mechanical inspections before you buy a used one.

We do not: work on the high-voltage battery pack, the drive units or the charging hardware. Those belong with Tesla, and we will tell you so plainly rather than take the car apart to find out.

Why Teslas need tires and alignment more than most cars

A Model Y weighs considerably more than a comparable gasoline crossover, and it delivers full torque the instant you touch the pedal. That combination is hard on tires, and an alignment that is slightly out will show up as scrubbed shoulders far faster than it would on a lighter car. We check alignment any time tire wear is uneven, and we quote tires in the load and noise ratings these cars actually need rather than the cheapest thing that fits the rim. Tires, rotation and balance and suspension and steering.

Brakes that rust from not being used

Regenerative braking means the friction brakes on a Tesla do very little work, and brakes that never get used corrode. The common failure here is not worn pads — it is seized caliper slides and rusted rotors on a car with plenty of pad left. We service the calipers and hardware, which is usually far cheaper than waiting until something drags. Brake repair.

The 12-volt battery

Almost every Tesla that will not wake up has a dead 12-volt battery, not a problem with the main pack. We test it properly instead of replacing it on a guess. Electrical, battery and charging.
