Service and Repair of Ram Trucks and Vans
Ram is one of the makes that comes through our bays most often, and most of the Rams we see are working trucks — 1500s towing a trailer on the weekend, 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups on job sites around Charles County, and ProMaster vans running deliveries. A truck that works for a living does not wear the way a commuter car does, and it should not be maintained like one. What we fix most on Ram trucks
Front end and steering. Loaded miles are hard on ball joints, tie rod ends, track bars and wheel bearings. The first symptoms are usually a wander at highway speed, a shimmy through the wheel, or tire wear on the inside edge. We inspect the whole front end instead of replacing only the part that is loudest, and we align the truck afterward — a new steering component in an out-of-spec truck will chew through a set of tires. Brakes under load. A Ram that tows asks far more of its brakes than the odometer suggests. We measure pad and rotor thickness against how the truck is actually used, check for the pulsation that says a rotor has run hot, and service caliper slides, which seize on trucks that live outside. Transmission, transfer case and differentials. Towing heats fluid, and hot fluid is what ends a transmission long before a part breaks. We service transmissions with a full fluid exchange rather than a partial drain, and on 4x4 trucks we look at the transfer case and both differentials at the same visit rather than making you come back. Cooling, charging and diagnostics. Heavy-duty Rams carry two batteries, and a truck that cranks slowly in January often has one good battery and one bad one — we test before we replace. We also handle coolant leaks, water pumps and thermostats, and we diagnose check engine lights properly instead of selling you the part the code happens to name.
